The Woodcarvers' Language School
This small school supports the local Dar es Salaam community with nightly language classes. Students learn effective reading, writing, and speaking in English and several other languages as the availability of teachers allow. Volunteers from the University of Dar es Salaam currently provide most of the manpower, but our hope is to raise enough funds to allow the school to hire a full time teaching staff. Despite the current daily challenges faced running the school (lack of reliable power or volunteers or lack of funds for power or supplies), the school runs and the students are overwhelingly positive about their experience and the opportunity it provides. A significant portion of all Mpingo purchases goes directly to the school, supporting the continued personal and professional development of Tanzanians.
