Natural Beauty
In Kiswahili, mpingo means African blackwood. Also called ebony, mpingo is prized for its beauty and density and has been used to make the finest musical instruments for generations. Each Mpingo carving is made to order by a highly skilled Tanzanian artist, who will benefit directly from the sale of his work. Orders are hand-carved in Tanzania, carefully packaged and insured, and delivered to your door.
Improving Lives
Our mission is to increase the social mobility of our Tanzanian partners so we work hard to be a socially responsible organization. Our operations empower the talented artists of Tanzania with a global marketplace for their goods and a true share of the profit. Additionally, we support a free school that teaches English (and other languages) to woodcarvers and other Tanzanian craftsmen.
